"People
with chronic disabilities such as chronic fatigue syndrome, fibromyalgia,
MS,
cerebral palsy, muscular dystrophy and arthritis have shown a gradual
improvement in the condition and also in quality of life. It is always worth
trying the Bowen Technique because in many cases it has been known to trigger
surprising and unexpected recoveries when nothing else has worked."

Chronic
Fatigue and Fibromyalgia |
I was diagnosed
with Fibromyalgia (FMS) over ten years ago. It has been a long road
for me. Going from being a very active person to someone that has
to regulate activities. Fibromyalgia affects your life, your job
and your relationships.
Having FMS is like
being handicapped, but no one can see anything physically wrong.
Your joints and muscles ache. You get exhausted just going to the
store. You are not capable of taking care of yourself, your house,
your family or your job. Since no once can see anything physically
wrong, you are told my doctors and others that it is all in your
head. Healthcare practitioners have no idea how people (mainly
women) get this condition. Nor do they know how to treat it. They
start pumping you full of antidepressants, pain killers, anti-inflammatories,
cortisone and sleeping pills. We also have tender points throughout
our bodies that at times it’s uncomfortable for people to touch you.
After feeling like
a zombie from medications for four years, and not knowing if my pain
and confusion was really all the FMS or if the medications were part
of the problem, and being really fed up with doctors who had no idea
what they were dealing with, I decided I had to find a different
solution to help with this condition that was totally taking over my
life.
I finally ran
across an article about FMS patients that were receiving in depth
massage. I got out the phone book and called a phone number, and on
the other end was a woman who knew exactly what FMS was. She was
very confident that she would be able to help me.
She told me that
she used Bowen Therapy on a woman who had FMS for many years. And
now that woman is leading a normal life.
I went for my first
treatment and the next day I felt well enough to take a walk.
Walking is one of my favorite things to do. It had become something
that I had a difficult time pushing myself to do. We had also
discussed certain herbs and vitamins to take for detoxifying my body
and helping to strengthen my bones and muscles. I felt so positive
about what she was telling me, and knowing that she believed me,
helped me to find an inner strength and determination to help fight
this condition.
My next treatment I
started feeling an energy that I hadn’t felt for years. I was
feeling so well that I started tapering off my medication.
By my third
treatment I knew I was going in the right direction. For four years
I had neck and back pain so badly that I would be in bed for days at
a time. I had injured my neck and back four years ago on the job,
and no doctor, physical therapist or chiropractor could give me any
relief.
The day after my
third treatment I had a terrible headache, which my Bowen
Practitioner told me I would have until my body adjusted itself,
which it did. And after that I have not had any more pain in my
neck or back.
My last visit to
the medical doctor was surprising to him. He couldn’t believe the
results that I was getting from Bowen Therapy. It was such a great
feeling to be able to see his mouth drop open.
By the fourth Bowen
treatment, my carpal tunnel syndrome had also become much improved.
And by my fifth treatment, I was totally off all my medications.
I’ve started a new
job at 32 hours a week, and I’m able to do family functions again.
My knees have quit hurting, my night sweats have just about gone
away, and my fevers are gone.
I still have days
where I know that I need to get extra rest, but I am not longer down
in bed for days at a time with depression, pain and exhaustion.
Bowen Therapy hasn’t totally cured me, but after ten treatments and
knowing how good I feel, I can’t wait to see where else might
improve.
I don’t feel so
confined to my house and bed any more. What a GREAT FEELING! I
surely hope those of you who suffer from FMS get to try Bowen
Therapy and really give it a chance. It’s been the best thing for
me, and hopefully it will be for you too!
