"People
with chronic disabilities such as chronic fatigue syndrome, fibromyalgia,
MS,
cerebral palsy, muscular dystrophy and arthritis have shown a gradual
improvement in the condition and also in quality of life. It is always worth
trying the Bowen Technique because in many cases it has been known to trigger
surprising and unexpected recoveries when nothing else has worked."

"I met this man who
was brought in every day to the rehab center by an ambulance. He
was wheeled in and carried to a massage table where various work and
massage was done on him. Two hours later he was wheeled away and
ambulanced back home.
I asked one of the
workers there what the man had, to which he replied “Nobody knows.
They think it’s a form of MS, but they are not sure.”
Well, I thought, if
nobody knows what’s wrong with him, then how can they treat him? So
I decided to introduce myself to him and tried to explain about
Bowen Therapy before the ambulance came to take him back home. I
was very surprised when he said to me “from now on, I will get the
ambulance to drive me to your home so that you can work on me
instead of the rehab center.”
This worried me as
I hadn’t reckoned with such a quick decision. I asked him to hold
off until I had a chance to speak with the Director of the rehab
center first, and explain to him what our plans were. This I did,
and he seemed open to letting me work on the man.
For the past five
years this man’s symptoms had been getting worse, including a
complete spacticity of the legs, arms and neck. He has to be fully
cared for as he is unable to move any limbs, but he does have full
control over his bowel and bladder. His home has been changed to
cope with a wheelchair. All his furniture had to be changed
(special bed; lift-up chairs, etc). His wife, a nurse has to feed
him, dress him and get him up at least three times a night to turn
him in bed.
During the first
Bowen treatment I gave him, his wife was very cautious of me and
riddled me with questions about the treatment. After all, he had
been ill for over twenty years and seen many specialists. So how on
earth could Bowen Therapy help him? It seemed impossible.
But then I began.
The treatment started in his bed and I did just a few moves. As I
completed the last move, tears came to my eyes. I knew something
was going to happen to this guy, and it did.
The next day I
phoned to see how he had slept and to find out if anything had
happened. He opened up and told me such a success story, that I
could hardly believe it.
All I can say is
it’s as if this man had been frozen solid. There had been no
movement at all in his limbs. He had had blood tests, nerve tests,
CT scans, turned upside down and inside out, but they could not find
anything wrong with him. And sadly, they had given up any hope of
him ever getting mobile again.
I have treated him
five times now over the past five weeks.
Week 1: Next day,
his legs opened up for the first time in years. His knees couldn’t
even be pried open before.
Week 2: More
movement in his legs. Tingling sensation in his finger tips. His
hands had always been freezing prior to this. The lower part of his
legs started to regain their normal color. Before, they were dark
brown and blackish. His thighs were more relaxed, so that his legs
would stay open for a few hours before banging back closed as the
spasm set in.
Week 3: He is now
able to move much better. He can dress himself. He doesn’t need
his wife to turn him over in bed at night. He has much more color
in his legs. He passes water more frequently.
Week 4: Continued
improvement
Week 5: We spoke
this morning and he said he woke up last night at 2:00 a.m. to find
he could now move his legs as if riding a bicycle in bed. I know
that not everyone wants to ride a bike in bed, but can you imagine
what is going through this man’s mind after being disabled for so
long to now have movement in his legs?
All told, we are on
the road to success.
One thing is for
sure: in five weeks, more progress has been made through Bowen work
than in the last 20 years of orthodox medicine.
